Choosing the right conversion
These pages convert fixed durations: one hour has 60 minutes and one day is treated as exactly 24 hours. A decimal duration of 1.5 hours therefore means 90 minutes, rather than one hour and 50 minutes. This distinction matters in timesheets and invoices.
An elapsed 24-hour period is not always identical to a local calendar day. Daylight-saving changes can make a civil day shorter or longer, and working days depend on a schedule. Use a timezone-aware date tool when calendar dates, local clocks or deadlines matter; these tools are for arithmetic durations.
They convert fixed durations such as seconds, minutes, hours and days. A calendar month may contain 28, 29, 30 or 31 days, so it has no single exact duration in days. For a deadline expressed as a calendar date, use a date-aware calendar calculation and account for the relevant time zone.
Is one day always 24 hours in a local schedule?
A duration of one day in this calculator is exactly 24 hours. A local clock interval crossing a daylight-saving change can display 23 or 25 hours between matching times on adjacent dates. If you are scheduling an event, check the dates and time zone instead of treating a civil day as a fixed elapsed duration.
