Text & code

Encode, decode, format and hash text or data directly in your browser.

Choose a conversion below. Every tool includes an instant result, an example and a short explanation.

Choosing the right conversion

Text tools change the representation of characters and data. HTML escaping, URL percent-encoding, Base64 and hexadecimal each solve a different problem, so choose the format expected by the receiving system. JSON formatting changes whitespace while preserving parsed values; cryptographic hashes instead produce a one-way digest.

Your input is processed in the browser. Even so, decoded material can contain unsafe markup or a misleading URL; treat output as untrusted when passing it to another application. For Base64 and hexadecimal, UTF-8 bytes explain why accented letters and emoji occupy more than one byte. Keep the original while testing a round trip.

Text & codeHTML entity encoderEscape text for HTML by turning &, <, > and quotes into entities. Useful when showing code as text.Text & codeHTML entity decoderDecode HTML entities such as &, < and numeric character references back to readable text.Text & codeURL component encoderPercent-encode a query value, path segment or other URL component using UTF-8.Text & codeURL component decoderTurn percent-encoded URL components back into Unicode text. Invalid escape sequences are reported.Text & codeText to Base64Encode text as Base64 or Base64URL with selectable character set and padding.Text & codeBase64 to textDecode Base64 or Base64URL into text using the selected character set; invalid data is reported.Text & codeText to hexadecimalRepresent each UTF-8 byte of your text as two hexadecimal digits.Text & codeHexadecimal to textDecode hexadecimal byte pairs into UTF-8 text. Invalid characters and byte sequences are reported.Text & codeFormat JSONIndent valid JSON for easier reading and debugging. Invalid JSON is reported without changing your input.Text & codeMinify JSONRemove formatting whitespace from valid JSON while preserving the data structure.Text & codeSHA-256 hash generatorCalculate the SHA-256 digest of UTF-8 text in your browser. A hash is one-way and cannot be decoded.Text & codeSHA-512 hash generatorCalculate the SHA-512 digest of UTF-8 text in your browser, displayed as hexadecimal.Text & codeText to binary bytesConvert UTF-8 text into space-separated eight-bit binary bytes.Text & codeBinary bytes to textDecode eight-bit binary byte groups into UTF-8 text. Invalid bytes are reported.Text & codeHEX to RGB colorConvert a #RGB or #RRGGBB color into three RGB channel values.Text & codeRGB to HEX colorTurn three integer RGB channels into a six-digit hexadecimal web color.Text & codeRGB to HSL colorTranslate integer RGB channels into hue, saturation and lightness.Text & codeHSL to RGB colorTurn hue, saturation and lightness into integer RGB channels.Text & codeDecimal to binaryConvert a whole decimal integer into base-two digits without a size limit.Text & codeBinary to decimalRead a base-two whole number as an exact decimal integer.Text & codeDecimal to hexadecimalConvert a whole decimal integer to hexadecimal notation with a 0x prefix.Text & codeHexadecimal to decimalRead a hexadecimal whole number as an exact decimal integer.Text & codeUnix timestamp to ISO 8601Convert Unix seconds since 1970-01-01 UTC into an ISO 8601 UTC date-time.Text & codeISO 8601 to Unix timestampConvert an ISO 8601 date-time with a timezone into Unix seconds.

Common questions

Does encoding make text private?

No. HTML entities, URL escapes, hexadecimal and Base64 change how bytes or characters are represented. Anyone who knows the format can reverse a reversible encoding. A cryptographic hash works differently: it is not meant to be decoded. Choose the tool for the receiving format and never treat visual unreadability as security.

When should I use the batch or chain controls?

Batch conversion is useful for independent single-line values that all need the same operation. Chaining passes one result into a second tool, for example decoding and then formatting. Check each intermediate output and preserve the original text, because applying the wrong operation or applying one twice can produce plausible but unintended results.
