01 / Guide

How it works

The input is parsed and serialized without optional whitespace. Whitespace inside string values remains intact.

Good to know

Whitespace inside string values remains untouched. Minification removes formatting but is not a replacement for HTTP compression.

Example

Your input{ "name": "Ada", "active": true, "items": [ 1, 2 ] }
Result{"name":"Ada","active":true,"items":[1,2]}

Minify JSON — How it works

Reducing formatting whitespace in JSON

Use this direction when valid, indented JSON needs a compact textual form for a payload or a quick comparison. The converter parses the document and serializes it without optional indentation or line breaks between tokens. It keeps spaces that occur inside quoted string values, because removing those would alter the data. A compact result may be easier to transport or embed in a field, but the savings depend on how much formatting the original contained.

Minification is not the same as HTTP compression or a schema transformation. It does not rename keys, remove properties or shorten meaningful string values. Since the content is parsed and serialized rather than edited character by character, duplicate keys can collapse and JavaScript number representation can affect very large numbers. Do not use the compact output in place of a byte-for-byte signed document without checking the signature rules. For debugging, keep an indented copy too; a one-line payload is convenient to send but harder for a person to inspect.

What a JSON formatter can and cannot change

JSON is a data format made of objects, arrays, strings, numbers, booleans and null. Whitespace between tokens usually has no effect on the represented structure, while spaces inside a quoted string are part of its value. A formatter parses the input and serializes the resulting value again with indentation; a minifier performs the same parse-and-serialize step without indentation. Both operations require valid JSON syntax, including double-quoted property names and strings. JavaScript comments, trailing commas and undefined values are not valid JSON input here.

Parsing is more than moving spaces. Duplicate property names can collapse to one value, numbers are represented with JavaScript number semantics, and key order may follow the serializer rather than the original spelling. These tools are useful for inspecting or compacting normal application data, but they do not validate an API schema or guarantee byte-for-byte preservation of the original document. Compare important data after conversion, especially very large integers, duplicate keys and files where exact whitespace or ordering has meaning to a separate signing or diffing process.

Preparing a compact JSON payload

Paste syntactically valid JSON and review the single-line result before using it in a request or configuration field. Processing takes place in your browser; the text is not sent to a minification service. The parser checks the structure first and the serializer then removes optional formatting between values. If the input has a trailing comma, an unquoted key or a comment, the operation reports invalid JSON instead of guessing a repair. Keep a readable version beside the compact output for later debugging.

Use minification when a protocol or size-sensitive field benefits from fewer formatting characters, while remembering that network compression can provide different and often larger savings. Confirm that the receiving system accepts the same JSON value after serialization. A one-line string is difficult to review by eye, and escaping it again for a URL, HTML attribute or programming-language literal is a separate task. Do not treat compactness as protection: the data remains readable to anyone who has the payload.
